USA Swimming Sectionals, Brown Deer: Rachel Bootsma Downs 100 Back Meet Record

BROWN DEER, Wisconsin, July 18. YOUNGSTER Rachel Bootsma, 14, of Aquajets downed a meet record in the women's 100 back at the USA Swimming Sectionals in Brown Deer.

Bootsma clocked a time of 1:03.06 to clear the 1:03.91 set by Melissa Marik back in 2006. Becky Yokosh, 16, of Pabst Farm finished second in 1:04.19, while Katherine Anton, 14, of Cedar Rapids placed third in 1:04.94.

Star Swim Team picked up 1-2 in the women's 200 free to start the night. Kiera Janzen, 15, won in 2:03.44 with Lauren Weis, 17, placing second in 2:04.25. Christine Kuczek of the Iowa City Eels took third in 2:06.84.

Lake Forest Swimming did the two-step in the men's 200 free. Conor Dwyer won in 1:53.02, while Mitch Stoehr, 16, touched second in 1:55.30. Jordan Huff, 16, of Dubuque Area picked up third in 1:55.35.

Kelsey Hojan-Clark, 15, of Elmbrook claimed the women's 400 IM in 4:59.87. Marissa Clapp (5:00.73) and Aja Van Hout, 15, of Badger (5:01.87) finished second and third, respectively.

Another youngster touched first as Matt Elliott, 15, of Peoria Area beat out Joshua Griffey of Minnesota, 4:34.18 to 4:34.60, in the men's 400 IM. Kendrick Bachman, 17, of Rochester placed third in 4:35.42.

Adam Mania of Schroeder clinched the men's 100 back in 57.79, while Michael Dominski, 17, of New Trier (59.85) and Paul Young, 16, of Black Dog (1:00.19) rounded out the top three.

The 400 free relays closed the night. New Trier's team of Samantha James, Betsy Webb, Emily Dominski and Katherine Shumway won the women's in 3:55.80, while Schroeder's Josh Baseheart, Mania, Bert Cebertowicz and Mitch Friedemann downed the meet record in the men's with a 3:25.14. They beat the 3:27.57 set by Schroeder last year.
