USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Longstanding Mary Wayte Meet Record Falls

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 18. RECORDS from 1988 don't fall every day, but that's exactly what happened during the second night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Fort Lauderdale.

Katie Wyld opened the evening with a meet-record time of 2:01.36 in the women's 200 free. She cleared the longstanding record of 2:01.49 set by Mary Wayte way back in 1988, 20 years ago! Stephanie Eisenring, 17, of Pine Crest took second in 2:04.40, while Katherine Raatz placed third in 2:04.52.

Another meet record tumbled in the men's 100 breast. Vlad Polyakov of Coral Springs clocked a 1:01.33 to lower his 2007 standard of 1:02.35. Sandeep Sejwal of Pine Crest placed second in 1:04.04, while Scott Thacker finished third in 1:04.52.

Alex Forrester, 16, of Bluefish knocked nearly a second from Margaret Hoelzer's 2006 meet record of 1:01.37 in the women's 100 fly. Forrester claimed the title in 1:00.56. Ana Anaya, 15, of Metro Aquatic (1:02.59) and Raatz (1:02.91) rounded out the top three.

Pine Crest went 1-2 in the men's 200 free. Jeff Raymond won in 1:52.96, while Shaune Fraser finished second in 1:53.00. Israel Murat wound up third in 1:53.08.

Laura Sogar, 17, of Bluefish owned the women's 100 breast in 1:11.10, while Tracy Rorer, 17, of Saint Petersburg took second in 1:12.76. Megan Onstott of Nitro Swimming finished third in 1:12.91.

Omar Pinzon of Gator Swim Club took the men's 100 fly title in 55.35, while David Russell of Bluefish (55.51) and Gordon Touw Ngie Tjouw of Indian River (55.62) touched second and third.

Angelina Ballatore led a Gator Swim Club 1-2 in the women's 400 IM. She touched in 4:52.22, while Stephanie Proud finished second in 4:54.61. Sogar picked up a second medal with a third-place 4:54.96.

Bradley Ally completed the individual swims for the night with a 4:27.21 to win the men's 400 IM. Scott Thompson took second in 4:32.18, while Michael Sullivan pocketed third in 4:36.36.
