Canadian Summer Open Nationals: Second Morning of Finals Finished

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, July 18. THE second morning of finals concluded at the Canadian Summer Open Nationals held in Winnipeg.

Sean Penhale won the first title of the morning with a time of 8:11.83 in the men's 800 free. Mexico's Daniel Delgadillo Faisal took second in 8:21.18, while Steven Bielby finished third in 8:21.29.

Fresh off a national record in the women's 100 back, Julia Wilkinson claimed the women's 100 free title in 55.02. Erica Morningstar placed second in 55.54, while Jen Beckberger took third in 56.33.

In the men's 100 free, Brent Hayden emerged with the win in 49.01. Joel Greenshields touched second in 49.44, while Rick Say wound up third in 50.12.

National-record holder Annamay Pierse beat out Jillian Tyler, 1:09.32 to 1:09.86, for the women's 100 breast. Ashley McGregor placed third in 1:10.74.

Scott Dickens grabbed the men's 100 breast in 1:01.92, while Mike Brown (1:02.22) and Mathieu Bois (1:03.12) rounded out the top three.

In the women's 400 IM, Tanya Hunks walked away with the crown in 4:45.14. Barbara Jardin (4:50.92) and Monika Stitski (4:52.58) finished second and third, respectively.

Brian Johns followed with a time of 4:18.13 to win the men's 400 IM. Keith Beavers placed second in 4:20.58, while Tim Ruse took third in 4:28.80.

The sprint flies were next. Jennifer Carroll won the women's 50 in 27.49 with MacKenzie Downing (27.76) and Paige Miller (27.84) making up the rest of the podium.

Thomas Kindler then topped the men's 50 in 23.95. Jason Dunford (24.35) and Jonathon Newton (24.94) earned second and third.

The 800 free relays closed the show. Hillary Bell, Paige Schultz, Kaleigh Heard and Zsofi Balazs won the women's title in 8:20.61, while Stefan Hirniak, Ryan Cochrane, Say and Penhale picked up the men's crown in 7:22.59.
