Kohei Kawamoto Lowers Own Masters World Record, Paul Smith Just Misses His Mark

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 15. KOHEI Kawamoto of Japan, but representing the Brophy Swim Club Masters, downed his own men's 25-29 record in the 50 fly over long course at the 2008 Arizona Masters State Championships.

Kawamoto checked in with a time of 24.20, downing his previous record of 24.48 set back in 2005. Kawamoto, already at the end of his age division at 29, will be gunning for the 30-34 world record held by Oswaldo Quevedo when he ages up. That is a likely occurrence as Quevedo's standard is a 24.73.

Meanwhile, Paul Smith just missed his world record of 25.90 in the 45-49 50 fly when he clocked a 25.96 at the same meet. Smith is also about to age up as he is currently 49. His next target will be the 26.23 standard for the 50-54 age group held by Trip Hedrick since 2004.
