NCAA Considering Proposal to Join All National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, June 4. ACCORDING to an article by Tripp Mickle in the Sports Business Journal, the NCAA is considering a proposal by USA Swimming, the American Swimming Coaches Association and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America to hold all championship events in one location each year.

This proposal would bring the best of the best from the Division I, II and III levels all into a single city, similar to other collegiate sports. Each division would still have its own national championship, as usual.

"We want to build on the success we've had with the Olympic Trials by making the NCAA tournament more than a competition and more of a festival of the sport," USA Swimming Executive Director Chuck Wielgus told the Sports Business Journal. "We've seen it with lacrosse. We've seen it with field hockey. We believe we can do it with swimming, too."
