USA Men’s Water Polo at America’s Cup

THOUSAND OAKS, California, May 22. FOR the second straight night the USA Men's Senior National Team took care of business dispatching of Team Canada and the Premier League All-Stars. On this night at Oaks Christian High School USA Blue downed Canada 7-5 while USA Red subdued a feisty Premier League All-Star team 12-6. Thursday evening will feature USA against USA as Red takes on Blue at 6:30pm.

In the first game USA Blue was in control early on getting out to a 3-0 lead and up 4-1 after the opening stanza. The second quarter saw the offensive wells dry up as neither team found the net. In the third USA Blue expanded to a 5-1 lead on a score by Jeff Tyrrell but Canada was able to cut their deficit in half at 6-3 by the end of the third. In the fourth Canada chipped away drawing to within 7-5 with just a little over two minutes remaining but could get no closer. Tony Azevedo had a pair of goals on five meter penalty shots while Tim Hutten added two more traditional goals. Brandon Brooks was solid in net impounding 12 shots on the evening

The nightcap featured the Premier League All-Stars blitzing USA Red with two quick goals to lead 2-0 and 3-1 with a little over three minutes left in the period. That seemed to wake up USA Red as they battled back to take the lead 4-3 at the end of the quarter on a goal by Peter Hudnut with 17 seconds remaining. In the second USA Red kept building the lead as Hudnut added two more scores and at the half it was 8-3 in favor of Team USA.

After the half it was more of the same as USA Red built the lead out to 12-5 as Jeff Powers scored the final of his three goals. In the fourth Hudnut added his final goal and that was all at USA Red won it 12-6. Chay Lapin was solid in the cage stopping 12 shots.
