ARGENTINA (ARG)
Apr.17–After a prolonged time off, the website for the Argentine Aquatic Sports Confederation, Confederación Argentina de Desportes Acuáticos (CADDA), is back online.

Apr.14–CADDA has announced a 12-swimmer team for the 2008 Copa Latina, April 24-28 in San Marino. Team members are: Walter Darío Arciprete, Julia Arino, Cecilia Andrea Bertoncello, Elizabeth Biagioli Cecilia, María Gisel Bondino, Eliana Cassini, Federico Grabich, Andrés José Gonzalez, Iván Maciuniak, Sofía Osaba, Esteban Paz and Freddy Renzo Zschach. Coaches: Gustavo Langone and Marcelo Mosquera.

Apr.19–The CADDA Executive Committee met on April 19 in Buenos Aires. At the meeting, the dates of the 2008 Argentina Masters Nationals was set (June 13-16 in San Luis).

ARUBA (ARU)
Apr.1–The French Antilles (Guadeloupe, Martinique, et al) and French Guiana were the overall winners of the 2008 CARIFTA Swimming Championships, held in Savaneta, Aruba, March 27-31. Final team standings at the 2008 edition Caribbean age-group meet were:

BARBADOS (BAR)
Apr.17–The meet summons for the 2008 Aquatics Centre International meet, May 30-June 1 in Bridgetown has been posted online here. The meet is an Olympic qualifying event.

BRAZIL (BRA)
Apr.17–After coordinating with the Secretary of Health for the State of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Aquatic Sports Confederation, Confederação Brasileira de Desportos Aquáticos (CBDA), has decided to keep the 2008 Brazilian Nationals at the beginning of May in Rio. Concern over the location and timing of the meet has developed following a breakout of dengue fever in the area. The outbreak is believed to be waning. Contingency plans are in development and are to be announced tomorrow, regarding efforts to ensure the safety/health of participants at the event.

CANADA (CAN)
Mar.20–Diving Canada announced that 47 divers will compete at the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials, June 20-22 in Victoria, British Columbia.

Apr.01–The meet summons in English and Spanish for the 2nd UANA Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships can be found at the links above. The event is August 27-31, 2008 in Calgary, Alberta, and features competition in 12&U, 13-15 and 16-18 age groups.

Apr.06–Following Canada's Paralympic Swimming Trials, held in conjunction with the Olympic trials April 1-6 in Montréal, Québec, a 21-swimmers have been nominated for Canada's 2008 Paralympic team: Joe Barker, Drew Christensen, Andrea Cole, Kirby Cote, Stephanie Dixon, Chelsey Gotell, Devin Gotell, Valérie Grand'Maison, Brittany Gray, Brian Hill, Benoit Huot, Laura Jensen, Stephanie McDougall, Brianna Nelson, Anne Polinario, Jacqueline Rennebohm, Katarina Roxon, Darda Sales, Amber Thomas, Donovan Tildesley and Jessica Tuomela.

Apr.07–The Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials were held April 1-6 in Montréal, Québec, where 10 Canadian Records were set. Following the meet, at 27-swimmer team was nominated for the 2008 Olympic team. Females nominated for the team (12) are: Stephanie Horner, Tanya Hunks, Savannah King, Alexa Komarnycky, Audrey Lacroix, Erica Morningstart, Annamay Pierse, Victoria Poon, Geneviève Saumur Lindsay Seeman, Jillian Tyler and Julia Wilikinson. Nominated males (15) are: Joe Bartoch, keith Beavers, Mathieu Bois, Mike Brown, Ryan Cochrane, Joel Greenshields, Brent Hayden, Richard Hortness, Andrew Hurd, Brian Johns, Tobias Oriwol, Colin Russell, Rick Say, Adam Sioui and Jake Tapp.

Apr.20–Diving Canada sent an 11-member Junior Team to the 2008 Lambertz-Springen International in Aachen, Germany, April 17-20–Aachen will also host the 2008 World Junior Diving Championships in September. At the event 4 divers reached the awards podium:
-Rachel Kemp: (all 14+15 female) 1m springboard–1st, 3m springboard–2nd, 10m platform–3rd;
-Riley McCormick: 16-18 male 10m platform–1st; and
-Pamela Ware: (all 14+15 female) 1m springboard–3rd, 3m springboard–1st, 3m synchro–1st (with Sabrina Beaupré), 10m platform–2nd.
Overall, Canada finished second in the medal standings at 4-2-2, behind Russia (4-4-1). Daily reports about the competition are available from Diving Canada here:

CUBA (CUB)
Havanna–The 2008 Cuban Olympics were held April 12-26. The annual event this year featured more than a 1,000 athletes from 15 countries, in multiple sports. Aquatics disciplines contested were: diving (April 13-17), swimming (April 19-24), synchro (April 13-17) and water polo (April 13-20).

ECUADOR (ECU)
Apr.17–The Ecuador Swimming Federation, Federación Ecuatoriana de Natación (FEBONA), sent a 14-swimmer team to the 2008 Copa Latina in San Marino, April 24-28. Team members are: boys (8)–Marco Camargo González, Juan Cháve Reyes, Iván Enderica Ochoa, Iván Jerez Zavala, Carlos Pólit Carvajal, Carlos Salinas Jácome, Alex Solórzan Castro and Diego Zambrano Macías; girls (6)—Ximena Andrade Espindola, Diana Chang Ibarra, Samantha Fajardo Salmon, Gabriela Jijón Nemalceff, Ncole Mármol Gilbert and Camila Nájera Espinosa.

JAMAICA (JAM)
Apr.7–Natasha Moodie swam to a Jamaican Record in the women's 50 free (26.08) at the USA Grand Prix meet in Columbus, Ohio, April 4-6. With her time, Moodie became Jamaica's first swimmer to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.

MEXICO (MEX)
The 2008 Mexican Synchro Championships were April 23-27 in Aguascalientes.

SAINT LUCIA (LCA)
Apr.22–The Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) held its annual meeting on April 22, 2008.

USA (USA)
Apr.8–U.S. Paralympics has nominated a 38-member swim team (18 men, 20 women) as the USA's team for the 2008 Paralympics. The nomination came following the USA's Paralympic Trials, April 3-5, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Apr.15–Former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken and former Paralympic swimmer John Morgan are part of the United States Olympic Committee's (USOC's) 2008 Hall of Fame class. Earlier this month, the USOC also named swimming coach Paul Yetter as the USOC Development Coach of the Year for 2007. Yetter works with Katie Hoff, Felicia Lee and Daniel Madwed, among others.

Apr.21–The 2008 USA Diving Nationals were April 13-20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Results from the event can be found online here: prelims (April 13+14), semifinals and finals (April 16-20.

VENEZUELA (VEN)
Mar.31–The Venezuelan Under-19 Female Water Polo Championships was held in Valera, on the weekend of March 28. Participating teams were from: Anzoátegui, Miranda, Lara, Trujillo and Yaracuy.

Apr.6–The city of Valencia hosted at synchro judges course, April 4-6.

Apr.10–Venezuela delegations to the 2008 Cuban Olympics held April 12-24 were:

Apr.17–The Venezuelan Aquatics Sports Federation, la Federación Venezolana de Deportes Acuáticos (FEVEDA), will send an 11 swimmers delegation to the 2008 Copa Latino in San Marino, April 24-27. Team members are: Crox Acuña, Elimar Barrios, Miguel Ferreira, Gabriel Huen, Luis Lovera, Octavio Marcano, Alexis Marquez, Darneys Orozco, Jesserick Pinto, Maylor Salgueiro and Daniela Victoria. Coaches: Oscar Huen and Miguel Hernández.

Apr.21–Sisters Ana and María Soto competed in the duet event at the synchro Olympic test event in Beijing, China, April 16-20. The event served as the second and final qualifier for the 2008 Olympics.

OTHER
Mar.24–The draw for the 2008 Olympics Water Polo tournaments occurred on March 24 in Beijing, China. Groups for preliminary pool play are:
Men-A: Australia, Canada, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro and Spain
Men-B: China, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Serbia and USA
Women-A: China, Italy, Russia and USA
Women-B: Australia, Greece, Hungary and Netherlands.

Mar.26–The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) will host the 2008 ISHOF Induction ceremony on Sunday, July 6, 2008 in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

Mar.27–The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has withdrawn its Athlete's Passport pilot program from the International Cycling Union (UCI), where it was being tested. This is due to a current legal suit UCI has against WADA. WADA is planning to move the pilot to another sport.

Apr.8–Italian Mino Auletta has been elected President of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Auletta had been serving as interim-president since the death in-office of the former president in January 2007; his election is for the remainder of the current term, which will expire in 2010.

Apr.9–Balfour Beatty will construct the aquatics center for the 2012 Olympics. The construction budget for the pool was also updated to £242 million; up from the originally proposed £73 million.

Apr.10–FINA has posted statistics on its 2007 drug testing program. In total, 1,079 out-of-competition (OCC) and 836 in-competition tests were conducted; these were on 629 swimmers from 52 countries; 585 tests on athletes from 61 countries and all 5 disciplines were conducted in-competition. Apr.10–The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the anti-doping rules for the 2008 Olympics. A copy of these rules are to be sent to each participating country and posted on the IOC website. The linked announcement above mentions that the top-5 plus an additional 2 in each event will be tested.

Apr.11–The 2008 Swimming World Cup circuit was announced as follows:

Apr.14–16 Short Course World Records were set at the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships 25m, held in Manchester, UK, April 9-13, 2008. Those records were:

Apr.21–Following the synchronized swimming Olympic test event, April 16-20 in Beijing, China, the Olympic fields have been set. Qualified countries for each event are:

Duet (24)–Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and USA.

Apr.21–FINA has posted a reminder that the application deadline for the next swimming officials list is June 1, 2008. This is for the list that will be valid January 1, 2009-December 31, 2012. Application and further information available .
