Pennsylvania Class AAA Men’s High School State Championships

LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, March 29. THE Wilson men took the Pennsylvania Men's AAA State Championship, winning handily by 49 points.

Cathedral Prep and Emmaus battled for second, and Cathedral Prep finished second by a 170-165 margin.

Individual Results
200 medley relay

Wilson won the first event of the meet as the relay team of Nick Woomer, Steve Gallagher, Jared Figueroa and J.C. Hoffa touched first in the medley relay with a time of 1:34.97. Emmaus' 200 medley relay team finished second in 1:35.50 while Cumberland Valley and Upper Dublin tied for third (1:35.93).

200 freestyle

Mac Anthony from Parkland stormed out in front at the 100 mark with a 48.15 split and lengthened the lead the rest of the way, slamming the touchpad first in 1:39.18. Andrew Fink of West Chester B. Reed Henderson clocked a 1:41.10 and placed second while Jonathan Buerger of North Allegheny, the top qualifier for the final heat, took third (1:41.39).

200 IM

Sophomore standout Steven Gasparini of Cumberland Valley won by more than a second in the 200 IM, clocking a 1:52.34. Wade Satanik from Easton finished second with a time of 1:53.69 while Alexander Kluge of Emmaus claimed the third-place spot (1:54.47).

50 freestyle

Jamie Grennan of Delaware Valley completed the two-lap splash-and-dash event in 20.75, taking first. Woomer touched second in 21.01 while Chuck Destro of Pittsburgh Central Catholic slid into third place by .01 with a time 21.03.

1-meter diving

Connor Kuremsky from North Allegheny grabbed the diving title with a 495.85 score. Ryan Kuser of Wilson claimed the silver with a score of 464.85 while Zac Nees from North Penn rounded out the top three finishers with a score of 435.20.

100 butterfly

Douglas Dietrich II of Pittsburgh Central Catholic cracked the 50-second barrier in the 100 butterfly, touching first in 49.94. Kevin Brazitis from Manheim Township took second with a time of 50.62 while Mark Waugh of North Allegheny settled for third with a time of 50.67.

100 freestyle

Fink avenged his second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a 46.07 win in the 100 freestyle. Shane Austin of Unionville pounded the wall second in 46.33 while Grennan, who had the fastest split at the halfway point, finished up third in 46.55.

500 freestyle

Anthony took win No. 2 on the meet with a 4:27.48 performance in the 500 freestyle. His time fell a second short of the state mark of 4:26.45, which Martin Schierhorn of Parkland set in 1996.

Dietrich II, who held the lead up until the 300-yard mark, took second in 4:30.97. Colin Schouten from Warwick picked up the bronze with a time of 4:32.87.

200 freestyle relay

West Chester B. Reed Henderson mounted a comeback victory in the 200 freestyle relay over Wilson. The Henderson foursome of Fink, David Baldino, David McCormick and Andrew Kosic checked in with a time of 1:25.42. Wilson touched .05 second after West Chester B. Reed Henderson, clocking a 1:25.47. Parkland took third in 1:25.53.

100 backstroke

Kyle Dudzinski, an Upper St. Clair freshman, slighted the field in the 100 backstroke, winning in a gold-medal time of 51.24. Satanik settled for second with a time of 51.28 while Woomer came in third (51.70).

100 breaststroke

Mitch Scherer of Owen J. Roberts posted one of the nation's fastest 100 breaststroke times with a 56.43 showing, taking first. Brent Sanderson of Unionville garnered the silver-medal honor (57.02) while Gallagher placed third with a time of 58.40.

400 freestyle relay

The West Chester B. Reed Henderson men returned to the podium's apex as the foursome of Kosic, Baldino, McCormick and Fink stopped the clock first in 3:06.91. Cathedral Prep finished second (3:07.54) while Parkland rounded out the top three event finishers with a 3:08.06 performance.
