Arizona State vs. California Women’s Water Polo

TEMPE, Arizona, April 26. KELLY Phelps scored a career-high five goals, but it was not enough as the No. 4 Arizona State University water polo teams dropped an 11-8 decision to No. 7 California Saturday at the MPSF Championships in San Diego. The loss pushed the Sun Devils' record to 21-12 overall while the Golden Bears improved to 18-10.

The two teams scored three goals each in the first quarter for a 3-3 tie before Cal outscored ASU, 5-1, in the second to take an 8-4 lead at the half. The Sun Devils took the third stanza, 2-1, before each team scored twice more in the fourth quarter for the 11-8 final.

Along with Phelps' goal scoring, Caylinn Wallace made 10 saves defensively to try to keep the game close. Katy Lawlor, Addison McGrath and Bonnie Miles each added solo goals.
