Connecticut Men’s High School State Championship

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, April 25. POMPERAUG edged out New Canaan for the team title at the Connecticut Men's High School State Championships.

Pomperaug tied for second in the final event of the meet, ensuring a 313.5-307.5 triumph over New Canaan. Fairfield Prep trailed closely behind in third with 302 points.

Pomperaug's Travis McNamara cleared the state mark in the 200 IM, turning in a time of 1:51.40. His performance bettered the former mark of 1:52.49, which Ryan Cassella of Cheshire set in 2000. McNamara also took the gold medal in the 500 freestyle, falling .04 second short of the state record with a time of 4:29.25.

Branford captured two of the three relay golds. The 200 medley relay team of Jonathan Moughty, Dan Aupi, Eric Sokolosky and Owen Rood checked in with a first-place time of 1:37.10 while the Branford 400 freestyle relay (Rood, Alex Lombardi, Aupi and Sokolosky) mined gold with a 3:09.32 performance.

Alan Dickey of Kennedy claimed the diving title with a score of 450.30. Mark Gracia of Xavier took second with a score of 425.30 while Mark O'Connell of Greenwich placed third with a score of 411.15.
