Michigan Division 3 Men’s High School State Championships

HOLLAND, Michigan, March 21. EAST Grand Rapids won the inaugural Michigan Men's Division 3 Championships by a landslide.

East Grand Rapids racked up 373 points throughout the meet, earning first place by nearly 150 points over the second-place finisher. Alma took second with 230 points while Tecumseh finished out in third with 188 points.

East Grand Rapids took both freestyle relays. The foursome of Patrick Frayer, Peter DeJonge, Justin Chronowski and Matt Woelfel staved off Alma for first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.98. Chronowski, Frayer, Michael Meehan and Woelfel teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay, winning in 3:14.80.

John Frutiger from Alma ran away with state titles in each of his two individual events. Frutiger touched first in the 200 IM, clocking a 1:53.78. He took his second gold medal in the 500 freestyle, taking the 20-lap distance event in 4:32.38.

Brock Jackson of Trenton tied for first in the 50 freestyle with Cranbrook's Matt Hogan with a time of 21.92. Jackson stood alone as the champion in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 47.83.

Collin O'Brien of East Grand Rapids edged out Mark Reedy of Lahser for the diving gold 413.20-409.25. Nick Burciaga from West Catholic rounded out the top three with a score of 369.05.
