German Olympic Trials: Christian Kubusch Downs 800 Free National Record

BERLIN, Germany, April 20. CHRISTIAN Kubusch ended the third night of swimming at the German Olympic Trials with a national record.

Kubusch clocked a time of 7:49.22 in the men's 800 free to smash Thomas Lurz' 2006 standard of 7:51.59. Kubusch did this in open water as Robin Backhaus was his closest competitor with a time of 8:08.21 for second place.

In the women's 200 free, German-record holder Annika Lurz went inside the Olympic standard with a time of 1:57.83, while Petra Dallman also touched below the standard with a second-place 1:58.60.

Katharina Schiller (2:13.73) and Sonja Schober (2:14.48) both beat the Olympic standard in the women's 200 IM, while Toni Embacher missed the cut with a time of 2:00.28 in the men's 200 fly.

In a pair of non-Olympic 50s, Christin Zenner won the women's back event in 28.45, while Johannes Neumann took the men's breast title in 28.10.
