MANCHESTER, England, April 13. THE United States' Nathan Adrian took home the world title in the men's 100 free at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Adrian clocked a meet-record time of 46.67 for the victory, dipping under Lars Frolander's standard of 46.75 set back in 2000.

Adrian held off a hard-charging Filippo Magnini of Italy, who placed second in 46.70. Croatia's Duje Draganja rounded out the podium with a time of 46.83.

"Winning gold is just a huge confidence booster – through the roof," Adrian told meet organizers. "I took this year off school to prepare for the Olympic trials – as far as I know it's been working."

Adrian became just the second American to win the event, returning the title back to the U.S. after a time in the hands of Ryk Neethling, who won in 2006. Jason Lezak previously won the title for the U.S. back in 2004 with a time of 47.97.
