World Short Course Championships: Fran Halsall from Great Britain Heads 50 Freestyle Semis

MANCHESTER, England, April 12. FRAN Halsall of Great Britain clocked the fastest semifinal time in the 50 freestyle at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Halsall cranked out a time of 24.20, which stood .09 second faster than the next fastest standard.

Marleen Veldhuis of the Netherlands finished second with a time of 24.29. Jessica Hardy of the United States, who just finished up a first-place performance in the 100 breaststroke, qualified third with a time of 24.35.

Hinkelien Schreuder from the Netherlands posted the fourth-best time of 24.40. Alice Mills of Australia finished fifth in a time of 24.43.

Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland (24.54), Agata Korc of Poland (24.55) and Sweden's Claire Hedenskog (24.74) completed the field of eight qualifiers for tomorrow's final.
