MANCHESTER, England, April 9. ADAM Pine, representing Australia in the men's 100 fly at the FINA World Short Course Championships, destroyed the Australian record in the event.

Pine clocked a splendid time of 50.09, just a second off the world record of Ian Crocker (49.07) and shattered the national record of 50.71 set by Geoff Huegill back in 2001. He also clipped Crocker's meet record of 50.18 set back in 2004.

Slovenia's Peter Mankoc came close to his national record of 50.60 from December with a second-place 50.88, while New Zealand's Corney Swanepoel reclaimed his national record with a time of 50.94 for third. Swanepoel had lost his national standard to Moss Burmester during prelims when Burmester clocked a 51.37.

Venezuela's Albert Subirats took fourth in 51.14, while Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov finished fifth in 51.25.

Spain's Rafael Munoz (51.29), Burmester (51.30) and Kenya's Jason Dunford (51.48) will also vie for the world title.
