Swiss Championships: Dominik Meichtry Breaks Another National Record

GENEVA, Switzerland, April 5. AFTER setting the 200 free national record earlier in the meet, Dominik Meichtry broke another national record during the Swiss Championships held in Geneva.

Meichtry, who set the national record in the men's 100 free with a 49.27 at the 2007 World Championships, nearly cleared 49 for the first time when he dropped a readout of 49.01 on an excited crowd.

Lukas Raeuftlin then upset national-record holder Jonathan Massacand in the men's 200 back, 2:06.23 to 2:08.98, while Stephan Bachman won the men's 400 IM in 4:28.13. Other male victories came from Damien Courtois in the 50 breast (28.90) and Martin Hohl in the 1500 free (16:00.24).

For the women, national-record holder Flavia Rigamonti cruised in the 800 free with a time of 8:31.48, while Marina Ribi placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 5:00.98. Martina van Berkel (200 back – 2:20.03) and Celine Baillod (50 breast – 33.15) also earned a pair of triumphs.
