Chinese Trials: Zhang Lin Breaks 1500 Free National Record

SHAOXING, China, April 4. ZHANG Lin broke the Chinese national record in the men's 1500 freestyle event at the Chinese Trials held in Shaoxing.

Zhang, who previously owned the national record with a 14:59.02, whacked more than three seconds from the record with a fabulous time of 14:55.98.

That performance put him among the top 10 swimmers of all time in the event, and in the vicinity of Tae Hwan Park's Asian record of 14:55.03.

"I wanted to swim under 14 minutes 50 seconds and break the Asian record, but it was the last race at the Trials, and I've been tired out," Zhang told Chinaview. "I think I'll have to improve my pace."

Other winners from the final day of swimming included Chen Huijia in the women's 100 breast with a time of 1:08.43, while Qi Hui took the women's 200 IM in 2:12.61.
