Polish Championships: National Records Almost Go Down in Day Two

OSTROWIEC, Poland, April 4. THE second night of swimming at the Polish Championships featured a pair of national records almost fall.

Mariusz Winogrodzki clocked a time of 28.84 to win the men's 50 breast, but fell short of his national record time of 28.48 set in 2006.

Meanwhile, Zuzanna Mazurek almost added the 100 back to her national record in the 200 back last night when she hit the wall in 1:03.44. The performance came up shy of the 1:03.17 shared by Aleksandra Miciul (2000) and Katarzyna Staszak (2005).

In the 200 free, Lukasz Gasior won for the men with an Olympic qualifying time of 1:48.68, while Paulina Barzycka took the women's title in 2:01.18, just ahead of Katarzyna Baranowska's 2:01.80 and Karolina Szczepaniak's 2:01.97.

The women's 50 breast crown went to Anna Kowalczyk, who touched in 32.90, while Marcin Unold claimed the men's 100 back title in a time of 55.71.

In the 400 IM, Baranowska won the women's event in 4:45.61, while Mateusz Matczak captured the men's title in 4:19.91.
