Spanish Championships: Marco Rivera Miranda, Mireia Belmonte Garcia Set National Records

MAJORCA, Spain, April 3. DURING the first night of finals at the Spanish Championships held in Majorca, Marco Rivera Miranda lowered his own national record in the 1500 free.

Miranda clocked a time of 15:08.48 as he remained in the 30s for most of his splits en route to the record-breaking readout. He clipped his previous best time of 15:08.95 that he set at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Mireira Belmonte Garcia crushed her own Spanish record in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:39.17. That time knocked four seconds from her national standard time of 4:43.13 set at the European Championships.

The only other record came by way of Escarlata Bernard Gonzalez, who broke her own meet record of 2:11.57 from last year with a 2:11.28 to win the women's 200 back this year.

Several other champions were crowned. Miguel Rando Galvez (200 back – 2:02.15), Borja Iradier (100 breast – 1:01.85) and Rafael Munoz Perez (100 free – 50.11) won for the men, while Sophie De Ronchi (100 breast – 1:10.77) and Maria Fuster Martinez (100 free – 55.83) garnered the women's titles.
