USA Water Polo, Positive Coaching Alliance Announce National Partnership

STANFORD, California, March 10. POSITIVE Coaching Alliance (PCA) — a national non-profit that is transforming youth sports — and USA Water Polo — the sport's national governing body — have established a national partnership. Under the agreement, PCA will provide live group workshops and other services to USA Water Polo's organizational leaders, coaches, parents and high school-age athletes.

"Positive Coaching Alliance is thrilled to partner with USA Water Polo," said PCA Founder and Executive Director Jim Thompson. "This is a great opportunity for us to expand our movement to transform youth sports in tandem with a vibrant, growing sport that will command attention in this Olympic year."

"Character is revealed by sport. What makes PCA effective is their nuanced understanding of how sport can also develop character," said Christopher Ramsey, CEO of USA Water Polo. "When adversity looms, whether within a game or within life, those who triumph usually do so because of more than simple talent. Our goal is to work with PCA to instill recognition throughout water polo that honor, pride, character and commitment are central to achievement, both in the pool and out."

Specific provisions of the PCA/USA Water Polo partnership include:

• Presentation of PCA's Double-Goal Coach, Second-Goal Parent and Becoming a Triple-Impact Competitor workshops at USA Water Polo's Junior Olympics

• PCA hosting a free webinar to educate USA Water Polo member clubs and leagues on how to create a positive culture

• Inclusion of PCA articles and youth sports coaching and parenting tips in USA Water Polo's Skip Shot magazine, website and other publications

• USA Water Polo to include PCA resources and material in handbooks and other materials.

"This partnership is great news for USA Water Polo's coaching community. PCA provides the right tools to help us in all facets of our work as coaches/teachers, building programs where young athletes will flourish," said John Tanner, Head Coach of Women's Water Polo at Stanford University and a long-time PCA supporter.

Special thanks to USA Water Polo for contributing this report.
