Samsung National Water Polo League, March 9

DURBAN, South Africa, March 9. THE powerful Central Gauteng OJ Eagles side kept their 100 percent winning record intact as they accounted for KwaZulu Natal 12-5 during the Samsung National Water Polo League second leg action played at the Clifton Aquatic Centre in Durban here today.

With experienced players of the calibre of the Le Roux brothers, Ettiene and Pierre, plus Rick Diesel and goalkeepers in SA no 1 goalkeeper Dwayne Flatscher and Marvin Killian in their squad, Central Gauteng OJ Eagles provide an all-round display of action-packed, disciplined water polo.

Following their successful stint in the opening leg of the competition played in Cape Town a fortnight ago, Central Gauteng OJ Eagles have looked to be a class above the rest, with their 17-9 routing of Western Province in Durban having ensured that they have all but have had their name engraved on the trophy in the inaugural year of the event.

"Going into the tournament, I honestly thought that our neighbours, Central Gauteng Old Edwardians would post a stronger challenge than Western Province as we practice quite often against the Old Edwardians club side and they know our playing system very well," said Central Gauteng OJ Eagles coach Vlado Trninic.

"We have been placing quite a bit of emphasis on our defensive pattern as the whole game plan is built from here. Also, we have been working hard on our leg strength, because most of a water polo match has players in a vertical position, and not as much horizontal, as is the case with swimming."

In the other fixture played today, Western Province beat Central Gauteng Old Edwardians 11-8.
