USA Swimming Sectionals, East Meadow: Elizabeth Beisel Captures Quad

EAST MEADOW, New York, March 8. ELIZABETH Beisel stood out as the star during the third night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectional held in East Meadow, N.Y.

The Bluefish squad of Beisel, Laura Sogar, Alex Forrester and Alex Frasier started the night with a victory in the women's 200 medley relay in 1:58.25, while FAST's foursome of Ricky Henahan, Greg Danner, Dylan Scheemaker and Jim Wood claimed the men's 200 medley relay in 1:48.39.

Kaia Simmons, 16, of Squids won an exciting battle with Bridget O'Connor of Badger, 2:14.29 to 2:14.88, in the women's 200 fly, while Andrew Gemmell of DST had a much easier time of it in the men's race with a 2:03.32.

Lia Neal, 13, of Agua Swim Team, who has been a recent media darling due to a New York Times article, won the women's 50 free going away with a 26.23, while Peter Geissinger of the Darien Piranhas captured the men's 50 free in 23.59.

In the women's 200 breast, Sogar, 16, earned her second title of the night with a touch-out victory over Annie Zhu, 13, of the Twisters, 2:34.32 to 2:34.59, while Taylor Grey, 16, of GMA placed first in the men's 200 breast with a time of 2:25.32.

Beisel, 15, joined teammate Sogar with a second win as she went 1:03.58 in the 100 back, while Ian Clark of Suburban garnered the win in the men's 100 back with a 56.96.

Beisel tripled as she claimed her second straight title when she hit the wall in 4:17.68 in the 400 free, while Eric Ress of SoNoCo touched out Ryan Feeley, 16, of Badger, 4:03.42 to 4:03.83, in the men's 400 free.

Incredibly, Beisel punched her name on a fourth gold medal in one night as she anchored the Bluefish team in the 400 free relay. Her squad of Forrester, Anna Senko, Frasier and Beisel touched in 3:55.55.

Bluefish completed a successful evening as Mike Ross, Sean Reams, Louis Arruda and Chris Rogers stopped the clock in 3:35.24 to win the men's 400 free relay.
