USA Swimming Sectionals, Nashville: 800 Free Events Comprise First Night

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, March 6. THE first night of long course swimming at the USA Swimming Sectional in Nashville, Tenn., was comprised of nothing but 800-meter events.

Nicole Menzel, 16, turned in a first-place time of 9:09.15 to win the women's 800 free over Deirdre Jones, 16, of Nashville Aquatics, who took second in 9:11.06.

Meanwhile, Sean Ryan, 15, of Scenic City, cruised in the men's 800 free with a six-second triumph in 8:20.93. Graham Munger, 17, of Dynamo snagged second-place honors with a time of 8:26.79.

In 800 free relay action, a team of unidentified members from Dynamo won the women's race in 8:34.30, while SwimMAC-Carolina's team of Jeremy Knowles, Caleb Courage, Ben Correll and Thomas Santoli dominated the men's race with a 7:47.69.
