USA Swimming Sectionals, College Station: Spindrift Beck Posts Meet-Record Double

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 1. SPINDRIFT Beck, who swims for the Dallas Mustangs, captured a pair of meet records at the USA Swimming Sectional held in College Station, Texas. At the end of the night, she touched first in the 200 breast and 400 IM with meet standards.

Jennifer Lamb and Maureen McLaine put on a show to start the night as the duo traded the lead back-and-forth in the women's 200 free before Lamb emerged with the win, 2:06.25 to 2:06.36.

Balazs Makany and Neil Caskey did the same in their men's 200 free race as Makany claimed the win at the touch, 1:52.03 to 1:52.08. Both swimmers eclipsed the previous meet record of 1:53.69 set by Philip Morrison in 2004.

Beck, who has quite possibly the coolest name in the sport along with the likes of Abbie Fish, cleared the meet record with a time of 2:33.45 in the 200 breast. That wiped out the 2:33.61 set by Jaime Williamson in 2004.

Another close call came in the men's 200 breast as Jimene Alvarado touched out Nathan Lavery, 2:24.12 to 2:24.69, while Lily Moldenhauer also claimed a touch-out triumph, 1:02.64 to 1:02.99, over Kylie Garcia in the women's 100 fly. That performance surpassed the 1:02.78 meet record set by Caitlin Andrew in 2004.

After suffering the close loss in the 200 free, Caskey rebounded as he crushed the field in the men's 100 fly with a 54.90.

Beck shot down her second meet record of the night with a stellar time of 4:57.95 in the women's 400 IM as she erased the 4:59.83 set by Lindsay Kenney in 2004. Her Dallas Mustang teammate, Matt Thompson, closed the night down with a dominant win in the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:29.41.
