USA Swimming Sectionals, Columbia: Shannon Vreeland, Bobby Bollier Shine in Day Two

COLUMBIA, Missouri, February 29. THE Kansas City Blazer duo of Shannon Vreeland and Bobby Bollier shined during the second day of competition at the USA Swimming Sectional held in Columbia.

Vreeland, 16, came out blazing for the Kansas City Blazers when she clocked a meet-record time of 2:03.68 to win the women's 200 free. She wiped out the 2:04.16 set by Helene Muller in 2001.

Zac Samland cruised in the men's 200 freestyle event to grab the title in 1:55.89, ahead of Evan Noble, 16, of CSP Swimming, who finished second in 1:56.24.

In the 100 breast, Haley Spencer, 17, earned the women's title for Rockwood in 1:12.42, while Ben Solari of HEAT won in 1:06.87.

In an exciting finish in the women's 100 fly, Emily Dicus, 15, of Topeka Swim, held off a quintet of 1:03s with a winning time of 1:03.09. Shannon Guy (1:03.13), Lisa Lunkenheimer (1:03.53), Taylor Wohrley (1:03.79) and Chloe Portela (1:03.98) all finished in the 1:03s.

Bollier, a Swimming World five-star recruit representing the Kansas City Blazers and headed to Stanford next fall, crushed the meet record in the men's 100 fly with a time of 53.33. He cleared the previous standard of 54.85 set in 2001 by Chris McCrary, who ironically finished second in 56.99.

Vreeland then completed a daily double as she dominated the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:57.01.

Bollier matched Vreeland with a double of his own when he shot down the meet record in the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:29.65. That performance cleared the 4:30.68 set by Ryan Plummer in 2001.

In 800 free relay action, the Aquahawk women of Molly Albrecht, Morgan Flannigan, Maddy Dalcamo and Emma Reaney won in 8:42.83, while the Blazer men of Bollier, Joe Knight, Bryson Cramer and Vito Cammisano finished first in 7:57.50.
