PSAC Championships: Day One

MECHANICSBURG, Pennsylvania, February 21. WEST Chester University opened up defense of its PSAC championship with a strong showing as the women's team posted 48 points in the only event of the day to take first place after day one of the 2008 PSAC Men's and Women's Swimming Championships at Cumberland Valley High School.

Danielle Ierley placed second in the women's 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10 minutes, 35.42 seconds. The Golden Rams took the second, third and fourth place spots in the event to amass its leading total of 48 points after day one.

Christie Angstadt was third in a time of 10:37.98 and Megan Bauer was fourth in 10:38.14.

For the men, West Chester University posted 50 points in the only event of the day to take first place after day one of the 2008 PSAC Men's and Women's Swimming Championships at Cumberland Valley High School.

Max Bernardes earned his first PSAC title of the meet, winning the men's 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9 minutes, 32.64 seconds. The Golden Rams captured three of the top five positions in that event to propel them into first place in the standings. Rod King was third in 9:41.68 and David Smoker fifth in 9:54.25.
