Boston College v. Rhode Island

KINGSTON, Rhode Island, February 2. THE University of Rhode Island men's swimming & diving team defeated Boston College 164-136 at the Tootell Aquatics Center on the URI campus.

The Rams opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay as sophomore Gerard Donlevy, freshman Daniel Backler, senior Jason Jacintho and junior Derek Denard finished with a time of 1:36.58.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team also picked up a first-place finish as Donlevy, sophomore Matthew Burak, Denard and Jacintho finished with a time of 3:13.32.

Donlevy had a pair of wins for the Rams, finishing first in the 100 yard backstroke with a mark of 52.59 and the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.66. Backler, meanwhile, won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:12.89 and Jacintho won the 100 yard butterfly with a mark of 53.90.

Senior Ryan Sheatsley captured first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.25 while Denard went on the capture first in the 50 yard free with a time of 22.16.

Freshman Logan Pearsall won the one-meter dive (228.60) and three-meter dive (274.20).

The University of Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team suffered a 157-143 loss to Boston College Saturday afternoon at Tootell Aquatics Center on the URI campus.

The Rams 200 yard medley relay team of senior Caitlin Regan, freshman Samantha Veccia, senior Julie Kent, and freshman Alexandra Lalli placed first with a time of 1:52.72.

Junior Kelsey Foy won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:52.96 and the 500 and freestyle in 5:16.43. Regan, meanwhile, took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.71. Veccia also won the 100 yard break stroke with a mark of 1:08.39 and the 200 yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:27.5.

Freshman Lillian Falconer won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.81 and the 200 yard IM in 2:08.87. Classmate Melissa Flynn took first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.81.
