Luxembourg Euro Meet: Three Meet Records Tumble on Final Day

LUXEMBOURG, January 27. THE Luxembourg Euro Meet came to a successful close during the third, and final, day of long course competition. A trio of meet standards fell by the wayside as swimmers completed the get-away day.

Women's 50 back
Antje Buschschulte scored another backstroke win, this time with a 29.45 in the sprint version. She touched out Christin Zenner, who placed second in 29.83. Jenny Mensing grabbed third just behind in 29.85.

Men's 50 back
Orn Arnarson clinched the men's sprint back victory with a top time of 25.88. Stev Theloke and Helge Meeuw battled for second, with Theloke finishing first, 26.12 to 26.14.

Women's 400 free
Annika Lurz added the middle distance title to her haul with a winning readout of 4:11.71. Ida Marko-Varga touched next more than a second behind with a 4:12.77, while Lindsay Seemann of Canada snared third-place honors with a 4:18.73.

Men's 400 free
Christian Kubusch registered a meet-record time of 3:53.34 as he walked away with the crown in the men's 400 free. Jan Wolfgarten wound up second in 3:54.62, while Thomas Lurz finished third in 3:54.75.

Women's 100 fly
Annika Mehlhorn edged out Israel's Anya Gostomelsky and Ukraine's Lyubov Korol in the women's 100 fly with a first-place time of 1:00.32. Gostomelsky touched out Korol, 1:00.80 to 1:00.94, for second place.

Men's 100 fly
Ukraine's Artem Pron surfaced with a hard-fought victory over compatriot Andriy Serdinov in the 100 fly. Pron came from behind with a 53.20 after trailing Serdinov, 24.84 to 25.30 at the turn. Serdinov picked up second in 53.48, while Sergiy Advena, also of Ukraine, took third in 53.57.

Women's 200 back
Jenny Mensing moved from third in the sprint back to first in the longer distance event with a time of 2:15.61. She had to come from behind Antje Buschschulte, who led at the halfway mark with a 1:06.49 against Mensing's 1:06.93. Buschschulte settled for silver, however, with a 2:15.72. Genevieve Cantin of Canada snagged third in 2:17.03.

Men's 200 back
Jens Thiele dominated the race en route to a meet-record performance. Thiele hit the wall in 2:02.58, while Lucien Hassdenteufel finished well behind with a second-place 2:04.62. Felix Wolf rounded out the top three in 2:05.91.

Women's 100 breast
Sonja Schoeber held on for a close victory over Simone Weiler, 1:10.29 to 1:10.69, in the women's 100 breast event. Kerstin Vogel, meanwhile, completed the top three just behind Weiler with a 1:10.70.

Men's 100 breast
Ukraine's Igor Borysik enjoyed another breaststroke triumph, this time with a 100-meter distance time of 1:01.82. Teammate Valery Dymo finished second in 1:02.29, while Johannes Neumann completed the podium with a third-place 1:02.70.

Women's 100 free
Petra Dallman raced by the meet record with a swift time of 55.25 in the women's 100 free. She finished in front of Ukraine's Darya Stepanyuk, who placed second in 56.23. Israel's Anya Gostomelsky picked up third place in 56.45.

Men's 100 free
Ukraine's Yuriy Yegoshin touched out Steffen Deibler, 49.84 to 49.92, to capture the final title on offer at the meet. Stephan Kunzelmann wrapped up the top three in 50.55.
