Brown vs. Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, January 25. THE Brown men's swimming and diving team (2-3, 2-2) dropped a 202-98 decision to Harvard on Friday afternoon. The Crimson won 13 of the 16 events and took first and second in nine of them to cruise to the victory. Junior Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD) was Brown's top swimmer, winning both the 100 and 200 back, while freshman Jonathan Speed (Jupiter, FL) took first in the 3-Meter dive for the Bears' other victory.

Brown's 200 medley relay team of sophomore Zack Levko (Wildwood, MO), senior Grant Garcia (Mercer Island, WA), sophomore JD Pinto (Greenwich, CT), and sophomore Tucker Wetmore (Weston, MA) opened the meet with a third place finish, clocking in at 1:36.92.

The Bears followed with two more third-place finishes as Harvard continued its fast start to the meet, taking first and second in the next two events. Freshman Ryunosuke Kikuchi (Temecula, CA) was third in the 1000 free with a time of 9:34.56, while junior Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC) was third in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.

Next up was the 100 back, which Ricketts won with a time of 51.93, while Pinto took third with a time of 54.27. Garcia led Brown in the 100 breast, taking third with a time of 1:00.40 as the Crimson again took first and second.

Kikuchi led Brown in the 200 fly, placing second with a time of 1:55.88, while freshman Sam Speroni (Sandwich, MA) earned third place with a time of 2:00.88. Sophomore Trent Huxley (Bellevue, WA) placed third in the 50 free with a time of 21.79 to lead Brown in that event.

Speed followed the 50 free with his victory on the 3-Meter dive, scoring a 325.88, while sophomore CJ Kambe (Unionville, CT) earned third with a score of 286.65.

Senior Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL) took second in the 100 free, clocking in at 47.01, before Ricketts earned his second victory of the day, posting a time of 1:53.38 in the 200 back.

Brown took third in the next three events, as junior Arkady Rasin (Brookline, MA) swam a time of 2:16.88 in the 200 breast, senior Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) earned a time of 4:44.85 in the 500 free, and Alexander posted a time of 52.32 in the 100 fly.

The Bears took second in two of the final three events, as Kambe posted a score of 282.82 in the 1-Meter dive to finish in second, while Speed was third with a score of 264.23. Sophomore Ray Grant (Seekonk, MA) took fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.91. The 200 free relay team of Hug, Ricketts, senior Brian Kelly (Weston, MA), and Wetmore closed out the day with a second place finish, posting a time of 1:24.30.
