Luxembourg Euro Meet: Lurz Family Shines on Day One

LUXEMBOURG, January 25. THE Lurz family took center stage in a pair of distance events at the Luxembourg Euro Meet held in long course fashion. While Annika copped the women's 800 free title, Thomas did the same but one-upped his relative with a meet record in the 1500 free. Meanwhile, Denys Sylantyev broke the meet record in the men's 200 fly.

Women's 800 free
Annika Lurz opened the first night of the meet with a victory in the women's 800 free when she touched in 8:36.95. Sophie Huber placed second in 8:43.76, while Teja Zupan finished third in 8:55.59.

Men's 1500 free
Thomas Lurz lit up the men's distance event with a meet-record time of 15:13.48, as he finish six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jan Wolfgarten, who took silver in 15:19.43. Marco Rivera Miranda rounded out the top three with a time of 15:34.37.

Women's 400 IM
Yana Klochkova cruised in the women's 400 IM with a winning effort of 4:47.60, while Annika Mehlhorn placed second in 4:51.19. Nina Schiffer grabbed the last medal on offer with a third-place 4:51.33.

Men's 400 IM
Lukasz Wojt pocketed the men's longer distance medley title with a top time of 4:25.10. In a rare occurrence, both second-place Vadym Lepskii (4:27.00) and third-place Thomas Lurz (4:28.00) punched the wall with flat times, exactly one second apart.

Women's 200 fly
Annika Mehlhorn bounced back from her second-place effort in the 400 IM to lay claim to the 200 fly crown. Mehlhorn clocked in at 2:13.39 for the win, while Tetyana Khala and Nina Schiffer tied for second in 2:14.59

Men's 200 fly
Denys Sylantyev surfaced victorious in the men's 200 fly as he withstood a hard charge from Sergiy Advena, 1:58.08 to 1:58.61. The winning time stands as a meet record. Atrem Pron finished out the top three with a time of 2:01.61.
