Golden Bear Defeats Golden West in Women’s Water Polo National Finals

ROSEVILLE, CA – The Senior National Championship Game went down to the wire. It may have taken overtime to settle things, but once the waters calmed, it was Golden Bear Gold pulling off a 6-5 victory over Golden West.
Maggie Kelly’s wrap around shot from set with 2:23 to play in the second overtime period gave Golden Bear Gold all it needed, as the defense shut down Golden West for the duration.
Kelly also buried the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 5-5, sending it into extra frames.
Golden West goalkeeper Jackie Frank finished the day with 13 saves, while Fana Fuqua collected seven for Golden Bear Gold.

Third Place Game

Lyn Nisbet’s goal from three meters out with one second left on the clock
lifted Santa Barbara over Modesto/Stanislaus in the third place game, 9-8.
Nisbet took a free throw on the right side with three seconds to play and
fired it past Modesto/Stanislaus goalkeeper Nicole Hall, bottom left, for
the lead. Tournament scoring-leader Margie Dingeldine’s last second shot was
hauled down by Yvonne Conard, locking up the win for Santa Barbara.
Dingeldine scored five goals in the loss, giving her 25 for the
tournament.

Fifth Place Game

Stanford was only able to muster one second-half goal, as Davis went home
with fifth place after a 7-4 win. Tiffany Hodgens scored two goals and was
one of six Davis shooters to find the net.
Goalkeeper Molly Morris had six saves in goal.

Seventh Place Game

Nicole Huszcz buried four goal in helping TRAP to a 5-4 win over Sunset in the seventh place game.
What appeared to be a runaway victory for TRAP turned into a one-goal game with 33 seconds left in the game. Sunset’s Danielle Boyle connected on a 6-on-5 to bring the score to 5-4, but TRAP was able to hold on for the win.
