Hearing from the coaches:

Smith's Kim Bierwert
On the women's meet:
We swam fairly well. Lily Seidman had a very good swim in the 200 free, swam 1:59.99, and swam 59.84 in the 100 fly. The 100 fly was one of the best races of the meet on the women's side. There were three people within 0.1 of a second, which was kind of a fun little race to watch. Marly Pineda also had some really nice swims today, with the 200 fly and a good 400 IM there at the end. They had a lot of personal bests, so you can't be disappointed with that. We would have liked to be a little more involved in the meet scoring, but that will come as we get a little bit better over time.

MIT's Dawn Gerken
On the women's meet:
All three teams really stepped up and performed. The 400 free really was one of the most inspiring and heartfelt races I've seen in my coaching career. My women just swam out of their minds, and I really couldn't ask for more for this meet. I want to congratulate the Wheaton women on their outstanding swimming today. It was great to see both teams stepping up and performing at such a high level.

On the men's meet:
I thought that our men's team had some strong races today. I was really pleased by our times and where we are midseason. We're racing smart.

Wheaton's Jean-Paul Gowdy
On the women's meet:
We were underdogs. Things had to happen for us, and they did. The women swam exceptionally well. We knew if we were going to win, we were going to swim well and it was going to be close, and that's basically what happened. As a coach, you're thrilled when the team steps up like we did today. This is swimming you usually see at the NEWMAC Championship.

On the men's meet:
I think the men did an excellent job swimming-wise and supporting the women in a close meet. The men get very involved when the women have a close meet, and the women get very involved when the men have a close meet. We're going to have some close meets on the men's side in the second semester, and I'm sure the women will be there for the men like they were for our women today.
