FINA Supports Hungarian Swimming Association Doping Ruling

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, December 6. FINA officially agreed yesterday with the Hungarian Swimming Association's decision to clear Olympian Agnes Kovacs of doping charges, according to news agency MTI.

Kovacs initially had been under suspicion of doping after giving an inadequate sample on Oct. 30. Kovacs, however, had a prior commitment when the surprise test occurred. Hungarian anti-doping officials at the time did not assign someone to go with Kovacs and wait until she had the time to provide a proper sample. Later, Kovacs provided a negative test on November 8.

The Hungarian Swimming Association deemed that proper procedures were not followed to justify action, and cleared Kovacs of an inadequate sample charge.

Yesterday, FINA agreed with the Hungarian Swimming Association's interpretation of the situation, thus completely clearing Kovacs.
