Nutmeg Invitational Day One

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, December 1. THE Bulldogs completed the first day of competition at the Nutmeg Invitational Saturday at home. Junior Ilya Byzov, junior Matt Sweitzer, and freshman Lugar Choi all came up with first place finishes in the competition.

In the first session, the Bulldogs dominated the 500-yard freestyle with first, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh place finishes. Byzov took first place with a 4:46.04 time. Freshman Jerrold Lee, senior Reid Madden, junior Kyle McElroy, and junior Paolo Benvenuto finished in second, fourth, fifth and seventh place, respectively.

In the 200-yard IM, senior Morgan Locke took second place with a time of 1:58.12 and freshman Kyle Veatch came in third place with a time of 1:58.61. Sophomore Craig Steen, freshman Alex Gornitzky, and sophomore Colin McCarthy finished in fifth, seventh, and eight place respectively.

Sophomore Jon Taylor took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.08.

In the second session, senior Bily Rubenstein and senior Jed Lynch took third and fourth place in the 400-yard IM. In the 100-yard Butterfly, Lugar Choi finished second, Veatch finished third and Locke finished fourth.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Lugar Choi locked up first place with a time of 1:44.61. Sweitzer took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.94. Senior Colin Stalnecker and freshman Sam Goldsmith took fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The women of Yale competed against swimmers from Fordham University, the University of Bridgeport, the University of Vermont, La Salle, Central Connecticut St., Williams College, and C.W. Post University.

In the first session, freshman Annie Killian earned fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.12. Junior Alexis Mann finished second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.72.

In the second session, senior Laura Aronsson earned third place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:34.71. Freshman Ileanna Lucos finished fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.68. In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Laura Strittmatter and Killian earned third and fourth place finishes, respectively.
