Iowa State v. Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, December 1. THE Iowa State swimminig and diving team moved to 2-1 on the season following a 180-57 victory over intrastate rival Northern Iowa. Leading the Cyclones to their 15th consecutive victory over the Panthers were Lindsay Wegner and Lindsey Behrens with two individual victories apiece.

Wegner, a junior from Hutchinson, Minn., took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.77. She followed that up with a victory in the 100 back as she touched the wall in 59.19. Wegner was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team which finished in 1:51.20.

Behrens, a sophomore, earned first-place honors in the 50 free with a time of 24.81. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native then won the 100 fly in a time of 59.35.

"Lindsey Behrens and Lindsay Wegner each raced outstanding for us today," said head coach Duane Sorenson. "They were both really competitive and took charge of their races and did a great job."

Iowa State also received individual victories from Jenny Vondenkamp (1,000 free), Kalyn Amundsen (100 free), Megan Thompson (500 free) and Jeli Nixt (100 breatstroke).

On the boards for the Cyclones, Tien Tran and Kali Fryklund finished first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Tran, a sophomore from Greenwood, Ind., captured victories in each event with a career-best score of 258.60 in the 1-meter and a score of 269.77 in the 3-meter event.
