Eastern Michigan Invitational Day One

YPSILANTI, Michigan, November 30. THE Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team dominated the first day of competition at Jones Natatorium, winning all six events.

Steven Bowling got things started with a victory in the 1650 freestyle, with teammates Dan Kish and Tyler Groskopf finished second and third respectively. Mark Kurtzer took the 200 backstroke, while Owen Grey placed third and Tim Everett fifth. The Eagles took four of the five top places in the 100 freestyle, led by Derick Roe's first place victory. Ethan Crabtree finished third, Mike Rowland took fourth and Andrzej Olesinski placed fifth.

Don Ellison won the 200 breaststroke, with Adam Wohl finishing right behind him. Ryan Fulkerson captured the 200 butterfly, along with Grey taking third place. Mitch Kellerman won the one-meter dive, with Chris Alberty finishing with a fifth-place showing. The 400 freestyle team of Olesinski, Crabtree, Rowland and Roe finished the day with a victory for the Green and White.

The women's swimming and diving team accumulated 309.5 points after the first day of competition to put the Eagles in second place.

EMU won one event on the day, with Sheila Carson winning the 200 breaststroke.

Freshman Elisa Torres finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.63. Alissa Ricard placed third in the 200 backstroke, with Leeza Moser finishing fourth. Catherine Lee Ha took second in the 100 freestyle, with teammate Madeleine Pilchard taking third. Becky Renkola finished third in the three-meter dive. The 400 freestyle relay team of Ricard, Lee Ha, Steph Cholyk and Pilchard finished runner-up with a time of 3:27.28.
