Longstanding Kenyan Age Group Record Falls

NAIROBI, Kenya, November 22. DURING the Safaricom Age Group Championships held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, 16-year-old Rachita Shah eclipsed a 29-year-old national age group record, according to a report in The Nation.

Shah, who swims for the Aga Khan Academy, punched a time of 1:14.61 in the 16-under 100 butterfly over the long course to shoot down C. Hulme's previous standard of 1:17.14 set at the All Africa Games way back in 1978.

"I am very happy with my performance. It feels great to break a national record which has been long standing. It has come at a right time when I am preparing for the Africa Junior Championships," Shah told The Nation. "I am now confident I will post an even a better performance when we go to Egypt."
