Meet of the Week Recap: St. Cloud State at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota, November 18. IN the final SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week this weekend, North Dakota picked up a pair of victories over St. Cloud State. The North Dakota men triumphed, 166-77, while the women surfaced victorious, 146-97.

The North Dakota men dominated with 12 of 13 titles, while the women wound up with nine out of 13 crowns.

The North Dakota men were led by Daniel Moraes, who won three titles. Moraes won the 200 free with an A-cut time of 1:39.80 and took home the 100 back with a B-cut time of 52.00. He also led the 400 medley relay team of Moraes (52.77), Anthony Buhr (1:00.22), Douglas Haugen (55.18) and Adam Rollins (46.78) to a win in 3:34.95.

Meanwhile, Erik Anderson swept the distance events with wins in the 500 (4:47.20) and 1000 (9:57.66) frees, while Eric Knight, Shaun Seaburg, Per Westergren, Rollins and Buhr each claimed a pair of titles.

Knight clocked a B-cut time of 21.27 in the 50 free, while Buhr won the 100 breast (1:00.30) as well as the 400 medley relay. Buhr, notably, clocked a B-cut time of 21.29 in the 50 free.

Knight also helped the 200 free relay of Knight (21.36), Westergren (21.21), John Fitzgerald (22.01) and Seaburg (21.50) to a win in 1:26.08, while Westergren (100 fly – 52.64) and Seaburg (400 IM – 4:15.89) also won individual titles. Rollins chipped in a 100 free title in 47.10, while diver Chris Bancroft won the 3m with 284.50 points.

Ross Eiden led SCSU with its lone title, the 1m with 272.70 points. Additionally, Jake Goergen clocked a B-cut time of 21.41 in the 50 free.

Natalia Busso paced the North Dakota women with a title trifecta. First, she anchored the 400 medley relay team of Cathryn DeShaw (59.54), Caycee Anvik (1:08.50), Kathi DiGregorio (1:00.90) and Busso (53.38) to a win in 4:02.32. She then clocked an A-cut time of 1:53.73 in the 200 free as well as won the 100 free with a B-cut time of 53.42.

Carissa Gormally checked in with a pair of wins in the 50 free (A-cut 23.70) and 100 breast (1:07.54), while Jessica Carlson also earned two victories with wins in the 500 (5:23.05) and 1000 (10:57.45) free.

Allison Maxwell (400 IM – 4:43.98) and Steffan Bachmeier (100 back – 1:00.27) also touched first in an event, while DeShaw's 100 back leadoff of 59.54 in the 400 medley cleared the B-cut threshold.

For SCSU, Erin Lannon (25.16), Cathy Haen (25.56), Kelly Vieau (24.52) and Alisha Blaydes (24.51) won the 200 free relay in 1:39.75, while Ali Weske topped the 100 fly n 1:00.52. Additionally, Haen's 100 back leadoff of 59.75 in the 400 medley eclipsed the B-cut standard, while Vieau's 24.61 in the 50 free also was a B-cut.

Notably, Kendra Willis (1m – 250.90) and Kelsey Berkeland (3m – 253.40) swept the diving events for SCSU.

"This was an excellent meet for us and we swam very well. We are improving every week and as a result, this was our best meet of the season."

"This was a great meet to see where we stand in the conference setting as well as the national level. We have some work left to do, but will continue to look forward."
