TEMPE, Arizona, November 17. THE Arizona State women's swimming and diving team handily defeated the Washington State Cougars 172.5-115.5 this Saturday at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz. The Sun Devil women are now 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Pac-10. The men did not compete due to the fact that Washington State does not have a men's swimming and diving team.

Diving competed before the meet began and although Washington State does not have divers, the Sun Devils still came up with impressive scores. Both Erin Hobbs and Brittany Jumer registered NCAA qualifying dives in both the one and three meter springboard. In the one-meter, Hobbs came in first with a score of 265.25 while Jumer was right behind her with a mark of 264.75. Jumer won the three-meter, tallying a total of 291.12 while Hobbs earned a solid score of 287.87.

In swimming, the Sun Devils relay teams got the team off to a fast start as ASU's "A" team won the 200 medley. The team of Caitlin Andrew, Ashley Evans, Ashton Aubry and Jess Perazzo clocked in a time of 1:43.95.

The next event was the 1000 free and Ellis Schieman earned her first individual victory of the year, touching in at 10:21.05. In the 200 free, Andrew touched in at 1:51.54, good enough to win the event.

In the 200 fly, Aubry received the day's lone NCAA "B" cut time for the swimmers. The sophomore won the event in 2:01.38. In the next event, the 50 free, the Sun Devils went one and two as Jess Perazzo clocked in a time of 23.63 while Lindsey Brown finished in 23.92. Brown won the next event, the 100 free, in 51.77 while freshman Katie Haron placed second with a time of 53.07.

Rikka Brunner picked up an individual victory in the 200 back. The junior finished in a time of 2:03.01. Aubry earned another individual victory on the day as she clocked in at 55.54. This is Aubry's third consecutive meet where she won the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 fly.

Andrew switched over from her usual sprinting events to compete in the 400 IM for the Sun Devils. The All-American senior won the event with a time of 4:28.65. In the last event of the day, the Sun Devil "A" relay team was again victorious. The team of Jen Beckberger, Lindsey Brown, Jess Perazzo and Sara McDaniel clocked in a solid time of 1:34.54.

The Sun Devil men and women's swimming teams travel to the Texas Invite in Austin, Texas on Nov. 29 while the diving teams head to Ohio State for the Ohio State Invitational. The next home meet is not until after New Years, when the Sun Devils welcome Washington's men and women's teams and Oregon State and Purdue's women's teams on Jan. 5th.
