Walker Shines at Texas Senior Circuit Champs

AUSTIN, TX. MULTI-talented Neil Walker put on a virtuoso display at the Texas Senior Circuit Championships in Austin, July 13-16, winning three events with world class performances.

The University of Texas grad first won the 100 meter backstroke in 55.77, followed with a 22.47 for the 50m free, and finihed with a blistering 49.40 for the 100 free.

The 100 free saw the top five finishers crack 51 seconds. Jamie Rauch was second in 50.37, followed by Josh Davis (50.87), Bryan Jones (50.91) and Tommy Hannon 950.97). Nate Dusing took consols in 50.46.

Tommy Hannon won a vry fast 100m fly race, touching in 53.81, just ahead of Bryan Jones at 54.13. Rauch took the 200 free in 1:50.54. Leading from start to finish, he upset a field that included Dvis, Dusing and Ugur Taner.

Davis turned in a stellar 200m backstroke performance, winning in 2:01.20. Medley specialist Ron Karnaugh took third in 2:06.23, a lifetime best in his weakest stroke.

Matt Hooper overtook Ugur Taner after the 100 meter turn to win the 200 fly. Hooper clocked 2:01.55 to Taner's 2:02.06.

Ron Karnaugh swam a very strong 200 IM, touching in 2:04.98, a second ahead of Joey Montague (2:05.99).

Martina Moravcova, just back from the European Championships in Helsinki,overtook Natalie Coughlin with a speedy 30.71 freestyle leg to win the women's 200 IM. The Slovakian star clocked 2:17.95 to Coughlin's 2:18.73.

Coughlin won the 800 free (8:58.60) and 100 fly (1:01.48).

Former SMU star Katie McClelland took the women's breaststroke events with times of 1:10.97 for the 100 and 2:35.31 for the 200. Another ex-SMU standout, Lia Oberstar, swept the backstrokes, winning in 1:03.10 and 2:15.64.
