Duke Men fall to NC State (217-82) while Duke Women Sweep NC State (156-141) and Campbell (237-48)

RALEIGH, North Carolina, October 26. THE Duke men's swimming and diving squad suffered a 217-82 loss to N.C. State in ACC action Friday night.

Junior diver Nick Campisano was one of the top performers on the men's side. He came away with a victory in the three meter event with a score of 315.68. He was also second in the one meter dive with a score of 316.58.

The men's 200 medley team finished second. The group of David Hahn, Jordan Charles, Nick Garvy and Andy Osterland combined for a time of 1:35.22. Hahn, Garvy, Osterland and Sean Smith had a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

In the 200 freestyle event, Duke swimmers finished in three of the top four spots. Smith was second with a time of 1:43.89. Close behind were Spencer Booth in third and Osterland in fourth.

Eric Ness finished second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.15. In the 100 yard butterfly Garvy came in second with a time of 51.66. Smith also placed second with a time of 4:43.56 in the 500 yard freestyle.

The men's team will return to the pool next Saturday, November 3 when they travel to College Park, Md. for an ACC showdown with the Terps at 2 p.m.

On the Women's side, The Duke women's swimming and diving team won nine events on Friday as they went on to defeat both N.C. State and Campbell.

The Blue Devils earned an ACC win over the Wolfpack by a 156-141 advantage. Duke cruised to a 237-48 win against Campbell.

Long distance swimmer Ashley Twichell won two events on the day. She took first in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:28.47. Her teammate Jackie Fasano was close behind in second with a time of 17:13.84. Twichell and Fasano also finished 1-2 respectively in the 500 freestyle. Twichell had a time of 4:57.09 and Fasano was in second with a time of 5:05.12.

Shannon Beall also won two events. In the 200 yard butterfly, she posted a time of 2:03.40 to record the win and in the 100 butterfly she finished first with a time of 56.20.

Julie Brommond took first in both the one and three meter diving events. She won the three meter by over 35 points with a score of 282.38. She had a score of 256.88 in the one meter, over five points more than the second place diver.

Danielle Spearman had a time of 57.92 to win the 100 yard backstroke. Jess Perry had a photo finish to win the 100 yard breaststroke. She was two tenths of a second ahead of N.C. State's Anna Linkenauger.

The 200 yard freestyle relay team also finished first. Emily Lang, Spearman, Kirstie Jeffrey, and Beall combined for a time of 1:36.82.

The women's team will be back in action next Saturday, November 3 when they travel to College Park, Md. to face the University of Maryland at 2 p.m.
