Save Syracuse Swimming and Diving Releases Call for Pledges

SYRACUSE, New York, October 24. THE Committee to Save Syracuse Swimming and Diving is awaiting reinstatement of the program and has begun the effort of collecting good-faith pledges. It has released the following request for those pledges.

On Oct. 4, a proposal was presented to Chancellor Nancy Cantor and the Syracuse University Board of Trustees. The proposal asked that the one-year grace period that Athletic Director Daryl Gross has given the team to compete this year be extended to a three-year period, over which time funding and mechanisms for ensuring both short-term and long-term financial solvency of the program be established.

The Committee's short-term goal is to seek financial support to offset operating costs of the Swimming and Diving program. The long-term goal is to endow in whole, or in part, the coaching positions and the maximum number of scholarships allowed by the NCAA, with an eventual goal of funding a Syracuse Recreational Center as a shared resource between the Community and the University that will house a 50-meter swimming and diving facility, an ice rink and a fully equipped fitness and recreational center.

If you can make a good faith pledge, please do so by clicking here, or go to SaveSyracuseSwimming.com. Fill out the form with your potential contribution and contact information.

Pledges will be collected once the Administration agrees to the extension of a three-year grace period and will be held in a fund that will be used solely for supporting the swimming and diving program. The more potential financial support, in the form of your pledges, that we can show Administrators, the better our chances will be to reverse the Athletic Department decision.

Please help us preserve the long standing tradition of Syracuse Swimming and Diving. Make your pledge in good faith today! You CAN make a difference!
