Illinois State Women Take Northern Iowa, 171.5-122.5

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, October 6. AFTER two days on the road the Redbirds showed their strength by winning the dual-meet against Missouri Valley Conference rival Northern Iowa with a score of 171.5 to 122.5. Freshman Ashley Bachler and sophomores Annette Danilowski, Lindsay Dinkelman, Caitlin Falconer, Elizabeth Herner and Liza Perrino all shattered their personal best times.

Senior Tracy Deyell walked away with first place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley and junior Erin Woodruff won the 1000-yard freestyle event. Freshman newcomer Amy Schaefer was able to pull off two first place wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly despite swimming eight events the night before.

Head coach Steve Paska felt that Northern Iowa was ready for the competition.

"I have a great deal of respect for Northern Iowa," Said Paska. "They have a very talented squad and came to the pool today ready to compete. Head coach Stacey Simmer has prepared the team very well and the Panthers have some very talented sprinters this season."

Paska is very proud of the way the team competed despite the back-to-back meet schedule.

"The team rose to the challenge that was put in front of them this weekend," Paska said. "After the long bus ride and competing at Notre Dame yesterday, they performed very consistently. We have some time to improve on individual performances before the meet at Lindenwood in two weeks."

The divers also had great performances even with the back-to-back competitions. Senior Katie Janonis won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 239.07. Perrino had a personal best score of 234.67 and a first place finish in the 3-meter board event. Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann was very pleased with their performances.

"I am very happy with the way they competed this weekend," said Hoffmann. "The meet was a great way to show where we are at in this stage of the season. Their performances were very solid and they have great benchmarks to go off of for the rest of the season."
