USMS Long Course Nationals: Distance Warriors Close Out Meet

THE WOODLANDS, Texas, August 13. ALTHOUGH no new records fell during the final day of competition at the United States Masters Swimming (USMS) Long Course National Championships, the winning attitude was prevalent as the distance freestyle warriors took to the pool.

Margery Meyer took another run at a record, this time with a readout of 32:41.73 in the women's 85-89 1500 free. The time finished a bit off the world record of Rita Simonton set on July 27, 2003 with a clocking of 32:33.60.

Mary Lathum, 92, cut almost two minutes off her seed time of 31:00.00 in the women's 90-94 800 free when she stopped the clock in 29:41.57.

James Edwards, 85, also completed the men's 85-89 800 free with a time of 22:52.85 as the oldest men's division represented during the marathon day of swimming.
