Jeff Erwin, Susanne Simpson Claim USMS Open Water National Championships

SANDPOINT, Idaho, August 6. JEFF Erwin and Susanne Simpson claimed their respective national titles at the USMS Open Water National Championships held at The Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint, Idaho.

According to reports sent in to SwimmingWorldMagazine.com:

"The conditions were great, sunny with an air temperature around 80 and water at 72. The swimmers had the advantage of spectators cheering them along the entire race course. The Long Bridge Swim is a 1.76-mile swim across magnificent Lake Pend Oreille. The race is a point-to-point crossing paralleling the Pedestrian Long Bridge that leads into Sandpoint from the south."

Erwin claimed the overall and men's titles in 34:42, while Jim Dugan placed second with a time of 34:58. Trever Gray rounded out the top three in 37:15.

Simpson won the women's race in 40:26, while Mary Sweat (40:42) and Arlene Delmage (41:11) took second and third, respectively.
