Swedish National Championships Close Book on Fourth Night

HALMSTAD, Sweden, July 28. THE fourth night of long course meter competition came to a close at the Swedish National Championships held in Halmstad, Sweden.

Petter Stymne opened the meet with a win in the men's 100 free when he touched in 50.29. Jonas Persson (50.63) and Marcus Piehl (50.83) provided his closest competition as the pair placed second and third, respectively.

Gabriella Fagundez added the women's 800 freestyle title to her Swedish record 1500 crown when she turned in an 8:41.91 to far surpass Eva Berglund's second-place time of 8:56.05.

Erik Samuelsson cruised his way into a men's 200 IM triumph with a time of 2:04.15, while Axel Pettersson (2:06.46) and Tamas Bosnyak (2:08.57) rounded out the top three in the event.

In the men's 400 freestyle, Christoffer Wikstrom came from behind at the 200-meter mark to win the race going away in 4:00.10. Johan Claar, who led the pack at the halfway point with a 2:00.02 split, finished second in 4:01.40, while Pontus Ericsson took third well behind in 4:04.72.

The women's 200 IM featured the closest race of the night as Sara Thyden touched out Stina Gardell, 2:18.08 to 2:18.14, as Gardell nearly overcame a .22 second deficit at the 150-meter mark. Malin Svahnstrom closed out the podium in 2:19.41 after holding off fourth-place finisher Ida Sandin (2:19.81) in another battle.

The squad of Tobias Lindbom, Jonas Persson, Sten-Olof Gustafsson and Martin Persson dominated the men's 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:42.40 to close the curtains on the night.
