Alessia Filippi Breaks Italian National Record in 200 IM at Italian National Championships

PESARO, Italy, July 27. ALESSIA Filippi lowered her Italian national record in the 200 IM with a world-class time en route to another title at the long course meter Italian National Championships held in Pesaro, Italy this week.

Filippi dropped her Italian national record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.08 to win the event, while erasing the 2:13.75 she set on Aug. 3, 2006. The time tied her for fifth in the world this year as Yana Klochkova notched the same time in Monaco in June.

Katie Hoff (2:10.13), Kirsty Coventry (2:10.76), Stephanie Rice (2:11.42) and Julia Smit (2:13.07) are the only other swimmers ahead of Filippi this year.

Francesca Segat captured a battle coming down to the wire in the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:10.26, while Paola Cavallino push her the whole way with a second-place time of 2:10.65. Segat's time pushed her to 22nd in the world this year in the event.

Alessandro Terrin took home the men's 50 breaststroke crown with a time of 27.83, which fell a bit short of his best time this year of 27.53 set at Worlds as he tied for bronze at the meet with the third-fastest time in the world this year.

Ombretta Plos snagged the women's 100 breast title in 1:09.38, while Federica Pellegrini cruised to the win in the 800 free with a time of 8:29.01. Pellegrini's time put her ninth in the world this year.

Cristina Chiuso held off a trio of swimmers on her tail to win the 100 free in 56.08, while Marialaura Simonetto (56.39), Delfina Pinto (56.55) and Erika Ferraioli (56.89) placed second through fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, Mattia Nalesso stopped the clock with a 53.48 readout to win the men's 100 fly.

The men's 800 freestyle relay of Nicola Cassio, Damiano Lestingi, Marco Belotti and Paolo Bossini won in 7:21.18, while the women's 400 free relay of Ambra Migliori, Alessandra Morotti, Elena Gemo and Pellegrini won in 3:48.71.
