ISHOF Brings To Life Classic Video of George Haines Talking About Championship Swimming

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 19. THE International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) recently added a more than 40-year-old video of legendary coach George Haines talking about tapering for championship swimming.

This remarkable film from the mid 1960s features Santa Clara's great coach Haines, as he prepares his team for competition. In an era when circle swimming and the pace clock were relatively new to swimming, Haines shows how to taper and prepare athletes for the big meet.

In this case, it is the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships and the center of focus is a young Mark Spitz. Even though it is more than 40 years old, the video remains a classic of how to prepare a team for competition.

The International Swimming Hall of Fame's film and video archive, which dates back to the 1920s, is the most extensive and comprehensive in the world. As ISHOF continues to preserve and transfer footage from film to DVD, it will be adding to the virtual archive so that historic events from aquatic history can be enjoyed throughout the world.
