Team USA Women’s Water Polo Tops First Days of Pan American Games Action

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 16. THE United States women's water polo team proved to be the only squad to emerge unscathed during the first phase of play at the Pan American Games.

Team USA picked up three wins in the first days of competition. The Red, White and Blue knocked off Venezuela, 21-3, then beat Cuba, 14-6, before defeating its northern neighbor Canada, 10-8.

Brazil tied with Canada for second place in the standings. Brazil edged Puerto Rico, 7-6, drilled Venezuela, 20-4, and lost to Canada, 5-2. Meanwhile, Canada dominated Puerto Rico, 14-5.

Out of the top three, Team USA owns a plus-28 goal differential, while Brazil stands at plus-14 and Canada is plus-10.
