Dara Torres Puts Up Fast Time at Fort Lauderdale Sectional

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 14. WHILE complete official results from the third day of swimming at the Fort Lauderdale Sectional are not yet available, news came to SwimmingWorldMagazine.com that Dara Torres still posted a scintillating swim in the 50 free.

While Torres' personal best in the 50 is the American-record readout of 24.63 set during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, word coming from Florida has Torres ripping off a 24.81.

The 40-year-old is attempting to make her fifth Olympic team next year, as she has already competed in the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000 Olympics.

The swim is just .01 seconds shy of Kara Lynn Joyce's 24.80 clocked at the World Championships for the quickest time by an American this year. Overall, it also moved Torres ahead of Cate Campbell (24.89) into sixth this year behind Marleen Veldhuis (24.37), Libby Lenton (24.53), Therese Alshammar (24.62) and Britta Steffen (24.79).
